Memories for Miriam My youngest daughter took a pretty big emotional hit when her brother, Lev, was born. At that time, Miriam was 22 months old and was truly the baby of the family. When Lev was born, Miriam was heartbroken. I took these photographs on a single morning in March of 2006 just a few days before Lev's birth. I used my old Pentax MX camera and TriX 400 film that I pushed to ISO 800 in order to accentuate the graininess. When I got the negatives back, I found that the lab had seriously mishandled them. Although I will not use that lab again (Helix in Highland Park, Illinois), I think the damage creates an interesting effect. When I took these photos, I was pretty much just playing around. When I saw the negatives, I realized that I could turn them into a small project that might convey to Miriam how special she is to me. 4 months later, Miriam has regained her happy and contented nature. Change is hard.
